Why Code Correction & Safety

Updates Matter

Electrical codes exist to reduce the risk of fire, shock, equipment damage, and unsafe wiring conditions. When electrical work is outdated, incomplete, or installed incorrectly, the home may still have power, but that does not mean the system is safe.

Correcting electrical issues can help:

  • Improve home safety
  • Reduce fire and shock risks
  • Address home inspection concerns
  • Bring older electrical components up to safer standards
  • Protect appliances and electronics
  • Improve reliability of circuits and outlets
  • Reduce nuisance breaker trips
  • Correct previous homeowner or handyman work
  • Prepare a home for sale or renovation

For older homes in the St. Louis area, safety upgrades are especially important because the electrical system may have been changed many times over the years. A professional correction helps clean up unsafe work and gives you a clearer understanding of your home’s electrical condition.

Most Common Reasons Homeowners Call PHE

Homeowners often contact Pure Home Electric after a home inspection, before listing a property, during a remodel, or when they notice warning signs around the home.

Common concerns include:

  • Missing GFCI outlets near water
  • Non-working or ungrounded outlets
  • Open junction boxes
  • Exposed wiring
  • Double-tapped breakers
  • Loose outlets or switches
  • Outdated smoke detectors
  • Improper outdoor outlet covers
  • Flickering lights
  • Buzzing switches
  • Breakers that trip repeatedly
  • Old or confusing panel labeling
  • Electrical work completed without a clear record

Some corrections are simple. Others require troubleshooting to find the real cause. Pure Home Electric will explain what needs to be fixed, why it matters, and the safest way to correct it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked

Questions

What are electrical code corrections?

Electrical code corrections are repairs or upgrades made to address unsafe, outdated, incomplete, or improperly installed electrical work. They are often needed after a home inspection, remodel, or electrical safety evaluation.

Do I need an electrician for home inspection electrical repairs?

Yes. Electrical inspection items should be corrected by a qualified electrician, especially when they involve outlets, breakers, wiring, grounding, panels, GFCI protection, AFCI protection, or exposed electrical components.

Should I fix electrical code issues before selling my home?

In many cases, yes. Correcting electrical issues before listing or closing can help reduce inspection delays, improve buyer confidence, and address safety concerns before they become negotiation problems.

What are common electrical safety upgrades for older homes?

Common safety upgrades include adding GFCI protection, updating smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, replacing damaged outlets, correcting open junction boxes, improving panel labeling, repairing exposed wiring, and evaluating outdated circuits.

A tree took down 2 power lines at a duplex. I called the owner, Kevin. He got me taken care of FAST. I was surprised because there was a storm and lots of lines were out. He understood the impact it had on my tenants. His team were in overtime to get my tenants back up and running with minimal disruption. He helped me plan the coordination between Ameren, the tree trimmers, and the tenants. The communication was fast and thorough. He originally quoted me for replacement of a box, which I was happy to pay. Upon closer inspection, they said I actually don't need a box. This tells me they are honest - they could have charged me more but they were on my side. I will only be using Pure Home Electric from now on!

Very knowledgeable and easy to work with. They have done a lot of electrical work for us from storm repair to adding outlets, lights, and an EV outlet all has been completed quickly and at a reasonable price. The county inspector even commented that the work was done well. Will definitely use them in the future for all my electrical work.

We are so happy with Pure Home Electric. We met Kevin out in St. Louis County and hired his company on the spot after being in need of an electrician to repair some GFCI issues / breakers, add lights to our basement and garage, install some exterior lighting and add an additional outlet to our garage. Clayton did incredible work - we are so happy that I’m writing this review while Clayton is finishing our house. Thank you, Pure Home Electric!
