Our Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Installation Services in St Louis

Many homeowners do not think about their smoke or carbon monoxide detectors until one starts chirping, stops working, or shows up on an inspection report. But these devices have a limited service life, and older detectors may not provide reliable protection.

Pure Home Electric can help with:

  • New smoke detector installation
  • Carbon monoxide detector installation
  • Combination smoke/CO alarm installation
  • Replacement of expired or outdated detectors
  • Hardwired detector installation
  • Battery backup detector replacement
  • Interconnected alarm installation
  • Detector placement recommendations
  • Home inspection repair items
  • Troubleshooting chirping or non-working detectors

If your detectors are old, missing, yellowed, disconnected, or constantly chirping, it is time to have them evaluated.

Why Proper Detector

Installation Matters

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are only useful if they are installed in the right places and working correctly. Poor placement, outdated devices, missing batteries, disconnected wiring, or damaged alarms can leave parts of the home unprotected.

Professional installation helps ensure your detectors are:

  • Installed in appropriate areas of the home
  • Properly connected when hardwired
  • Equipped with battery backup when needed
  • Replaced when past their service life
  • Tested after installation
  • Positioned to provide better whole-home coverage
  • Installed cleanly without guesswork

Carbon monoxide is especially dangerous because it is odorless and invisible. A working CO detector can alert you before symptoms become serious. Smoke detectors are equally important because they provide early warning during a fire, giving your household more time to respond.

is an upgrade right for you?

Benefits of Upgrading Your

Smoke and CO Detectors

Installing updated smoke and carbon monoxide detectors gives your home stronger, more reliable protection.

Benefits include:

  • Better protection for sleeping areas
  • Early warning for smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide
  • Updated devices with modern safety features
  • Fewer issues with old, unreliable alarms
  • Cleaner replacement of outdated or yellowed units
  • Improved coverage in bedrooms, hallways, basements, and living areas
  • Help addressing home inspection concerns
  • Greater peace of mind for your family

For older homes, detector upgrades are often one of the simplest safety improvements you can make.

When Should You Replace Smoke or Carbon Monoxide Detectors?

You should consider replacing your detectors if:

  • They are more than 10 years old
  • They chirp even after battery replacement
  • They are yellowed, cracked, or damaged
  • They do not respond during testing
  • They were removed by a previous owner
  • You are remodeling or updating the home
  • You are selling or buying a home
  • You do not have CO detectors near sleeping areas
  • Your home has fuel-burning appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage

If you are not sure how old your detectors are, Pure Home Electric can inspect them and recommend the right replacement options.

FAQs

Frequently Asked

Questions

How often should smoke and carbon monoxide detectors be replaced?

Most smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors should be replaced about every 10 years, but you should always check the manufacturer’s date and instructions on the device. If the alarm is yellowed, damaged, missing, constantly chirping, or does not respond during testing, it should be replaced sooner.

Where should smoke and carbon monoxide detectors be installed?

Smoke detectors are commonly installed inside bedrooms, outside sleeping areas, and on each level of the home. Carbon monoxide detectors are especially important near sleeping areas and in homes with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces, gas furnaces, water heaters, or attached garages.

Should I choose hardwired detectors or battery-powered detectors?

Hardwired detectors are a strong option because they connect to your home’s electrical system and usually include battery backup. Battery-powered detectors may still be useful in certain locations, but hardwired and interconnected alarms can provide better whole-home protection when installed correctly.

Why does my smoke detector keep chirping?

A chirping smoke detector may have a low battery, expired sensor, loose connection, dust buildup, or internal failure. If replacing the battery does not stop the chirping, the detector may need to be replaced or the wiring may need to be checked.

A tree took down 2 power lines at a duplex. I called the owner, Kevin. He got me taken care of FAST. I was surprised because there was a storm and lots of lines were out. He understood the impact it had on my tenants. His team were in overtime to get my tenants back up and running with minimal disruption. He helped me plan the coordination between Ameren, the tree trimmers, and the tenants. The communication was fast and thorough. He originally quoted me for replacement of a box, which I was happy to pay. Upon closer inspection, they said I actually don't need a box. This tells me they are honest - they could have charged me more but they were on my side. I will only be using Pure Home Electric from now on!

Very knowledgeable and easy to work with. They have done a lot of electrical work for us from storm repair to adding outlets, lights, and an EV outlet all has been completed quickly and at a reasonable price. The county inspector even commented that the work was done well. Will definitely use them in the future for all my electrical work.

We are so happy with Pure Home Electric. We met Kevin out in St. Louis County and hired his company on the spot after being in need of an electrician to repair some GFCI issues / breakers, add lights to our basement and garage, install some exterior lighting and add an additional outlet to our garage. Clayton did incredible work - we are so happy that I’m writing this review while Clayton is finishing our house. Thank you, Pure Home Electric!
